The “The Soul of a Single Parent” is a candid, up-close-and-personal perspective of my journey as a single parent. It is written from a single mom’s perspective. This is not to discount, disregard or discredit the many single fathers who also single-handedly choose to “do the right thing” every day. Each chapter is but a glimpse of the journey into the soul of a single parent. Unless you are truly a single parent, don’t judge me until you have walked at least a mile in my shoes or spent a whole day - no scratch that - a whole week, in the life of a single parent. If you are a single parent, I hope you enjoy this literary journey with me. Feel free to laugh (with me, not at me) as you read through the pages. Go ahead, sit down and shed a tear of joy (or pain) with me as I share my world with you. More importantly, I pray that you gain further insight and purpose as to your divine role as a single parent. Each chapter starts with my perspective or a short snippet of “coming from where I’m from”, then digs deeper to further share “my truth or turning point” of my single parent journey. Are you ready to snapback from single parent paralysis? Is it time to get your SWAG on? If so, then let’s begin!
Single Parent Fear Coming From Where I’m From: My greatest moment of fear as a single parent was during the last visit I took my kids to go see their father. As I backed the car away from where he was standing, tears began to roll down my face. These were tears of release and revelation; but also tears of fear of the unknown journey I was about to begin as a single parent of three kids. Now, I’ve always ministered to myself with music. At this particular time I had the Yolanda Adams cd cued up and playing “The Battle is the Lord’s”. Little did I know that the words to this song were setting the stage for the next few years to come. My Truth/Turning Point: There are many times that as a single parent we will have to reach deep down into our soul to find the courage to keep on moving – through the fear, despite the doubt and beyond the betrayal. And that’s just to make it to tomorrow! But no matter your situation, one thing rings true. You are not the first, nor will you be the last single parent to persevere. Yes, you will experience moments of paralyzing fear where you tell your body to move . . . and it won’t. But it is in those moments that you take a deep breath, wipe the tears away, and begin to take that first baby step. As you creep (or crawl along) you look up in disbelief. No, you’re not dreaming. Yes, you are moving, slowly but surely. Next, you pat yourself down to make sure you are still here and standing (as your heart beats a mile a minute). Now, since you are still standing, you look straight ahead, eyes zoned in on the target and prepare yourself for that leap of faith! On your mark! Get ready! Set . . . GO! Do it through the fear! Do it alone! Do it . . . right now! Are you dealing with fear? Is it causing you to live in “single parent paralysis” – not able to get up and move on? If so, contact me at april@singleparentliving.net to start your journey from fear to faith today! Single parent paralysis is NOT an option. Forget the fear and move forward!
