Ms. Martha Holguin was born and raised in El Paso, Texas. She is currently working for a Charter School District as a K-12 Librarian, and teaching a Research and Documentation Skills class to high school students. Ms. Holguin has previously worked as an Academic, Public, Special and School Librarian, receiving numerous awards and recognitions for her outstanding work in the field of librarianship. In 1995-96 she received a Minority Fellowship to work at the American Library Association (ALA) Headquarters in Chicago, ILL; served as a Texas Library Association (TLA) Board Member Representative-at-Large from 1997-2000; awarded Librarian of the Year by Reforma-El Paso Chapter in 1994; is co-founder of the TLA Library Services to the Spanish Speaking Round Table; and, in 1989 created a Library Literacy Center inside the El Paso Public Library-Clardy Fox Branch while serving as Library Branch Manager through a grant initiative. The Literacy Center has since been absorbed by the city of El Paso and is currently housed at the Downtown Public Library. She has written and has been awarded several grants, one of them which includes assisting ADA individuals under the “New Freedom Grant,” for the Sun City Cab Company in partnership with Sun Metro Para-Transit and Project Amistad. This grant enabled eligible ADA participants transportation to scheduled medical appointments when Sun Metro Para-Transit was inundated with “Will Calls.” Ms. Holguin has written her first book “When Season Come . . .“ for children in elementary school who are learning about seasons. This book includes the months of the year in association with seasons, as they come and go each year. It is simple, repetitive and colorful, a read children will also enjoy.
