This book is designed for, and dedicated to, caregivers across the nation who spend each day preparing meals for family members with special meal needs, while trying to please the rest of the family.

Preparing meals for a family member who has been restricted from salt or sugar creates a  problem that affects the entire family.  However, all family members will benefit from delicious and well-planned meals which are prepared without adding salt or sugar.

Statistics have shown that if one family member has been diagnosed with diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease or obesity, it is likely that other family members will be diagnosed in later years.  Preparing food without adding salt or sugar is essential in assisting your family in maintaining good health.

Our main purpose is to assist families in locating recipes, health charts, portion sizes and information on caring for a family member who has been diagnosed with life threatening diseases that requires limited salt or sugar.

Before making any changes in your current food preparation, you should consult your doctor or nutritionist.

There are two very important aspects to consider when preparing meals, taste and nutrition.  When you eliminate salt and sugar one of those aspects is missing - taste.  It doesnt matter how nutritious food is if it doesnt taste good, you nor your family will eat it!

We have put forth a lot of time and effort to make sure this cooking guide is filled with recipes and cooking methods that burst with deep robust flavor without adding salt or sugar.

This book also contains health charts, portion sizes, delicious dessert recipes and the most flavor packed (Seasoning Recipe) your family will ever experience.

E.L. Hughes was born in the South and has always been interested in cooking.  Southern born and bred, she is accustomed to delicious foods that burst with flavor.

When her husband was diagnosed with diabetes, high blood pressure and heart failure, cooking for the family became a difficult task.

Meal time was depressing, her husband meals were bland and unsatisfying, most of the time he wouldnt eat.  This is when she decided to find ways to "spice-up" his meals.

Its a timely questions:  How can you prepare healthy meals for a person who have spent a lifetime eating good tasting food?  So the dilemma began.  By trial and error, she developed recipes without adding salt or sugar that the whole family could enjoy.

This book serves many purposes; it allows the restricted family members to enjoy the same meals the rest of the family enjoy; it saves the meal preparer time and it gives the whole family delicious healthy meals.
