First what we are! We are Spirit, we live in a body, and we have a soul!
I Thessalonians 5:23
Before we are saved we are born spiritually dead. We still have these 3 things that make up who we are.
Your spirit is going to live forever in Heaven, or Hell!
When you first get saved, your soul gets persuaded by the truth of what Jesus said.
Proverbs 11:30
The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.
So a soul has to be won through the persuasion of the intellect. After the intellect is convinced that what Jesus say’s is true, then you believe in your spirit man, then you are saved by the blood of Jesus.
John 3:5 says
Jesus answered, verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born of water, and of the spirit, he cannot enter into the Kingdom of God!

Many people just make the confession with their mouth that Jesus is Lord because they do not want to go to Hell.
But their spirit man was never born again.
Your spirit man must come alive not just persuaded in your head!
You must truly be born again, because you were born spiritually dead.
You can be persuaded to not follow Christ also.
When your spirit man is born again, you are changed forever!
