The book, Confessions of a Fake-Nail Aholic, is a humorous metaphor about one woman’s journey in and out of the clutches of a beauty product that completely enslaved her to the point of addiction. Her story is told with a generous sprinkling of common sense, humor and helpful solutions. It is both frightening and funny to see how she fanatically sticks to a bi-weekly routine of costly cosmetic enhancers in order to feel better about herself. The author shares her personal addiction to fake nails as an inspiration to others who may have similar issues and insecurities.

I am sure you have had some embarrassing moments while wearing FAKE NAILS… Here are a few of mine:  The perfect date – Ah, “Mr. Right” holding my hand lovingly and tight as we walked into the restaurant. Oops! Off it went! Great impression! I couldn’t figure out why he didn’t call me again. We seemed to have had a wonderful time but he didn’t attempt to hold my hand as we were walking out of the restaurant. In fact, when I think about it, he took me home very quickly and there was no “good night” kiss.

I have had plenty of horrifying moments when one or two nails fell off at the most inconvenient time. Being at a business meeting when one of my nails suddenly flew off and into someone else’s lap! Ahhh the looks everyone gave me, and then the silent giggles. While eating with friends and suddenly the nail fell off in the soup! Ugh! How embarrassing. The look of horror when someone else realized you were wearing FAKE NAILS!

The trips out of town when I had no “spare nails. “ I was frantic!  Walgreens here I come!  You’d better be open at midnight! I needed to find a place where I could get my acrylic nail “fix” right away! Seriously!! For a year I traveled throughout Europe designing presentations and training manuals for an environmental company.  Before I left, I tried to make sure that I had lots of fake nails, glue and nail polish with me.  That was the top item on my list of things to take.

The last place I lived in was Budapest, Hungary. And by that time, I had no more fake nails as I had used them up.  Of course, the Hungarian ladies didn’t wear acrylics, it would have cost too much. Plus it was an unnecessary item. By this time, my acrylics were falling off one at a time and my REAL nails were UGLY!  Dry, flakey, ugly! I was embarrassed!!! Plus, it didn’t look very professional. I started looking for gloves to cover my hands.  I would hide my fingers by always carrying a briefcase so it appeared I had something worth while in it and I was being PROFESSIONAL. I loved Budapest and I hated my need to have Fake Acrylic Nails when no one else wore them.

As soon as I came back to the States, yes, you guessed it — I ran to the drugstore and “got my fake nail addiction” fix! I could go on and on about the funny and embarrassing times with THOSE nails. But, I’m going to give you a chance to stop and think about YOUR embarrassing moments ... those embarrassing, horrifying moments that have happened because of your love affair of Acrylic Nails.
