CAST A GIANT SHADOW the life story of 7’7 1/4" tall Sandy Allen, "The World’s Tallest Living Woman." She prayed to be like the other girls, but knew she never would! Learn from Sandy’s example, that through determination, you too can overcome most of life’s obstacles. Throughout her childhood, Sandy was ridiculed for her looks and her size. But she learned to confront adversity and accept the "special position" she had been bestowed on this earth. Given up by her Mother when she was six weeks old, she was raised by her loving Grandmother, who struggled to provide her with the bare necessities. She earned the right to hate the world! Instead, she nurtured a truly inspirational deep compassion for all people. Sandy shares personal insights into her private life and openly talks about the problems she faced growing up. Sandy reminds us "we are all different in some way", as she continues her daily battle with "acromegaly", commonly known as "giant’s disease". There will likely never be another woman taller than "gentle giantess" Sandy Allen. She has appeared in the Guinness Book of World Records since 1976 and is one of the most recognized women in the world. Enjoy the behind the scenes look into her many television show appearances and travels in this, her only authorized life story. Sandy invites you to "share her journey" as she continues her personal mission to teach the world "the Golden Rule" and that "It’s OK To Be Different!"
Page 13 "When I was 6 years old "Ma" enrolled me in elementary school. I was well aware by then that I was noticeably taller than all of the other kids. These first years in school were undeniably my most miserable. I learned all too quickly how cruel other children could be to someone who is different. If the common differences of physical appearance, family dysfunction, or low family income are areas subject to childish ridicule, then they had hit the jackpot with me! I was the ultimate find for cruelty givers. I developed physically at a much quicker pace than the other girls my age. Not only was I taller, but also larger in every way. I was called skinny, beanpole, the Jolly Green Giant, and much worse. And this is what they said to my face . . . God only knows what they said behind my back!" Page 109 "I know that many of you are hoping that I will give you advice and share a deep insight into how I have coped with problems in my life. I wish it were that easy. I can only tell you that I just keep going. And there are days that I don’t know how. I continue to try to remember the values my Grandmother taught me. I know she would want me to keep fighting and not give in to frustration. I also know in my heart that the good Lord has put me here to do something good."
