Paul Berube’s experiences as a husband, father, firefighter and soldier have helped him to further enhance his amazing gift of poetic story telling.
Paul began writing while stationed at Fort Sill, OK in 2003. His first poem, THE REASON IS CLEAR, was submitted to the Laconia, NH Citizen by a person still unknown to him and was published during the 2003 Christmas season. Shortly thereafter, family and friends asked to read more of Paul’s poetry so he continued writing as a hobby. It soon became a project and the idea for Lessons in Life, came to mind in December of 2006. Paul had never been a writer and never had any aspirations about becoming one. It just happened. At the urging of family and friends Paul decided in February, 2007, to attempt to get his writing published.
His first book, TRAIL’S END POETRY, Lessons in Life, was released June 11, 2007 to much local fanfare and family celebration. With the success of his first book, Paul decided to keep writing.

excerpt from PLEASANT MEMORIES
Most memories along the trail,
Are treasures you'll want to keep;
The things that make you content,
They're all there for you to reap.
Do not linger on the bad times,
But dwell on every sweet thing;
That fills your soul with happiness,
Pleasant memories they will bring.
Born in Fall River, Massachusetts in 1952 Paul grew up in Somerset; a small town across the Taunton River. He lived in Somerset until 1994 then moved to Cranston, Rhode Island near the Roger Williams Zoo. In March of 2001, Paul moved to Meredith, New Hampshire with his wife Joanne and their 21 month old son Jonathan. They now reside in the town of Groton, NH; population 600. Paul has also been blessed with four other children, ages twenty-three through thirty, who are living in Canada, Massachusetts, Michigan and Rhode Island.
After the World Trade Center tragedy of September 11, 2001, Paul felt the need to do more so he joined the local on call volunteer fire department and graduated from the New Hampshire Fire Academy as a Pro Board Accredited Firefighter in March of 2003. At about the same time, Paul was approached by an Army recruiter and asked about his military background. That June, he was again sworn into the Army National Guard and ordered to report to Fort Sill, OK in September 2003 for re-training. Due to Paul’s debilitating arthritic condition however, he was found unfit for deployment and was given a second Honorable Discharge in March of 2004. Paul received his first one in August of 1981 after serving for 10 years as FDC Chief with Delta Battery 1/211 Field Artillery out of Fall River.
Due to another medical problem, he is no longer able to serve as an on call Firefighter. Paul hopes that through his poetry, he can still help others in some small way.
His first book, TRAIL’S END POETRY, Lessons in Life, was released this past June. Due to the popularity of his first book, Paul has decided to keep writing. Book 3 in the Lessons in Life series is near completion.
