This book will show you not only what to do, but how to do it so you can reach your goals faster without wasting months or years on wasted effort. So I present to you my first book, 12 Weeks to Beach Body Abs. Of all the muscle groups of the physique, the abdominal musculature is the most sought after. Despite most people’s desire to achieve a muscular, cut, and fat free midsection, only a few people ever achieve this goal. Why? Why do most people never acquire a six or eight pack of muscle below their chest, with rippling oblique muscle at the side of the waist? Well there are as many reasons as there are flavors of ice cream, but these reasons can be divided into six main categories. Reason 1) Your Genetics Yes, genetics do make a difference. We all know someone who stays lean all year round, yet eats enough food to feed a family of four. On the other hand, we also know individuals who eat little in comparison but still walk around with a spare tire around their waist. So, yes, genetics do play a role in what type of body you will build. That being said we all have a range in which what we can potentially be. That range is broad enough for a person to go from fat to lean and to show dramatic changes in muscular development and leanness. My own muscular weight varies as much as 25lbs. depending upon how hard I train, how much rest I get, and what I eat. Despite my propensity towards thinness, I have manipulated certain key variables to build a bigger and leaner physique. Genetics do matter, but you have more control over the leanness of your physique than you’ve led yourself or have been led to believe. Reason 2) Your Diet You have heard the cliché “You Are What You Eat”. This statement is so true. If you build your house out of straw and other shoddy material, don’t be surprised when it looks terrible and gets blown down with one puff. If you build your house out of brick and other strong materials your house will prove resilient despite the efforts of a figurative wolf. The point is every cell in your body is hugely impacted by what you put in your gullet. Beyond genetic factors and exercise, diet plays a major role in how lean and shredded you will become. Of course many people hear this and assume that extreme dieting is the way to go. Just drop all carbohydrates and drastically cut back on calories and Abracadabra! an instant six-pack. Many people have shown the error of this type of extremeness. Many people who diet like this don’t achieve their leanness goals. In fact, most people never get close; those that do often gain back the fat that they burnt along with a few extra pounds to boot. The body does not like to be tricked into losing weight. Drastic measures cause drastic rebounds and body adaptations that make it harder to burn body fat the next time a trainee decides she/he wants to lose weight. The trick to acquiring a lean and sculpted midsection is to eat a nutrient rich nutritional plan and gradually shed body fat over weeks and months. If this is done, then your body will get leaner more rapidly and remain so because you are not abusing it. When selecting food choices for leanness, you will almost always do better with foods that are unprocessed, raw, organic, or basically untouched by man. These foods contain nutrients, both known and unknown, that support vibrant health along with a sturdy lean physique. You simply cannot go wrong with these foods. Processed, hormone injected, and chemical rich foods tend to wreak havoc on the body; causing losses in lean muscle, strength, endurance and gains in body fat. Don’t believe this? Despite having a greater income per capita, Americans are one of the fattest groups of people in the world. The primary reason being access to junk food all day long along with lack of sufficient exercise. Other countries are falling prey as well; countries in which fast food chains have recently been introduced as seeing rises in obesity levels. All that over-eating of man made goods leads eventually to a host of problems much more serious than a lack of owning six-pack abs. Along with proper food intake, making sure that you consume sufficient water daily is a prerequisite to achieving the physique that you want. All body processes are supported by H2O. The body’s cells are bathed in water. When water intake is inadequate, the cells of the body die and overall body performance declines. Insufficient water intake slows down the metabolic rate making it difficult to burn body fat and build new muscle. Ingesting water throughout the day will assist your efforts to make your abs ‘beach ready‘. How much water is it necessary to drink? No clear answer can be given because needs vary widely due to factors such as activity level, diet, climate, medication intake, body weight, and body fat percentage among other things. You should be aiming for about 4 clear urinations a day; if you do this you should be well hydrated.
