Hard not to be florid about this book …Devoured in snippets or read straight through. It presents amazing experiences and skills. Because Marc-Charles Nicolas has a brilliantly delicate appreciation for the idea of a sentence in a poem, the juxtapositions of segments in these pages appear essentially to construct entire topics for mediation. Examined along and the dawnings increase and multipy--- inspirations, love, feelings, locations, events hitherto isolated are now all hooks-and-eyes into each other. And because Marc-Charles gets his inspiration from the muse, you feel the exquisiteness and beauty buried in shattered phrases about the “universality of poetry.”
As a poet he belongs to a life larger than his own. —The life of genuine things. And (One more performance worth a word): the poems in his book “Perfumed Paradise” are filled with ‘aboutness’. Put together as they are, they’re seen to abound with roots: their laughter or melancholy or ire has discernible reasons. The humanness of poem-writing as a hobby, the splendid unavoidability of it ---that is what this compilation brings together.
But floridity was to be kept away. One cloudless day---pace the anti-sentimentalists: life is short—I sat in the sun and by a Brook with a friend and passed pages of this manuscript from side to side, reading fragments aloud, laughing quietly or looking grave, occasionally thrilled and bemused. A while back, this was, yet I remember no happier afternoon. The poems were written originally in French 13 years ago in the year 1993, delicious remembrance - fantastic book!

Marc-Charles Nicolas was born in Port-de-Paix, Haiti. He had long been an avid reader of poetry and a lover of literature. After graduating high school in 1990 at College Jean Price-Mars in Haiti, he went on to finish his bachelors degree in Agricultural Engineering / Management at the Universidad de Guadalajara in Mexico in 1995. A certain hunger for knowledge and opportunities drove him to the USA after his time in Mexico. He spent a year teaching and doing research for the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and then moved on to complete a Masters of Business Administration with a concentration in Management of Information Systems at Oklahoma City University. He has worked several years as a Software Engineer for IBM. He is currently a Senior System Administrator for Perot Systems.
Nicolas discovere his nascent abilities as a poet while studying outside of his native country. He writes in English, French, Spanish and Haitian Creole and his literary language is marked by great scope and richness of words. The wild solitudes have always attracted him, and he feels the subtle spell of nature’s varying aspects in the scenes around him. He later went on to write Perfumed Paradise, Poetic Dream and Soul Possession. In his books Perfumed Paradise and Poetic Dream, meanings and sounds are intimately related resulting in concentrated, sensually evocative poems characterized by assonant phrasing, richly descriptive adjectives, and witty metaphors.
In his spare time, Nicolas has quickly become a proficient piano player. He is also the creator of websites such as matchspecial.com, Haitisurf.com and Flownicx.com.
I have had the pleasure to read Marc-Charles Nicolas’ poetry and I confess that I cried.
Perfumed Paradise is a literary bomb. I love the philosophical nature of his book Poetic Dream and Soul Possession. The beauty of his words, the metaphors his philosophical style, etc his work is truly breathtaking.
Marc-Charles Nicolas is one of the best poets, I have ever read. He writes in different languages yet in range, it encompasses so much.
His poetry is very deep, classy and frankly written with discipline for smart people. This is a surprisingly consistent, formidable, subtle and wide ranging oeuvre. Marc-Charles Nicolas is one of greatest poet from the Caribbean when you look at his rhythmic structure and his rhymes flow off of the reading tongue. Great books I cannot wait to purchase other books from Marc-Charles Nicolas
