History of the Davis College of Agriculture, Forestry, and Consumer Sciences chronicles changes in West Virginia Agricultural College, which was formed in a fledgling state, only recently granted statehood during the nation’s greatest internal conflict. It was the seedbed for West Virginia University, the largest university in West Virginia. The college adapted during the twentieth century: admitting women, at first in domestic sciences and now into all programs; adding diverse disciplines – biochemistry, forestry, landscape architecture, recreation, textiles, wildlife, etc; and earning international recognition as an institution of higher learning. Through the guiding hands of the faculty, the college remains a distinctive entity within West Virginia University.

The idea of the book came from the crisis in British farming that suddenly demanded that farmers diversify in ways that were both sustainable and ecologically sound. The book starts by providing an enthralling history of essential oils through the ages - from the Pharoahs to the present day. It then shows farmers and budding essential oil producers exactly how they can benefit today from clear, practical advice available nowhere else. What equipment to use? What is the expected outlay? What essential oils can be distilled and what products can then be made from them? What are the expected profits? All these questions and much, much more are addressed in an easy to read, light-hearted format. From armchair enthusiasts to inquisitive farmers, Bruce Dolby's book offers a delightfully amusing read as well as the knowledge to get started.

From the view of a US Department of Agriculture scientist, the author writes of his assignment in Iraq, working at Embassy Baghdad and traveling to nearly every Province. While nearly all of his work was agriculturally related, he writes of his experiences by combining insight and imagination as art, as well as the science of agricultural development. He brings the perspective of working with the US Military, the State Department, the Government of Iraq Ministries, as well as a host of other government agencies and organizations. The book includes 301 photographs, giving the reader a first hand look at Iraq, its people, its beauty, and the still present scars of decades of war. The author makes the compelling case that Iraq and its people can become a stable and peaceful country, but it is largely up to the young people in Iraq to find this course. In many of his journeys, he finds just such young people, and imagines what they can become …
