Click this link to read a review of Modernity and the Muslim World. Modernity and the Muslim World consists of fourteen essays which describe the glorious period of Muslim science in the Middle Ages and its subsequent and rapid decline. Some of the causes of its decline are underlined. The intent is not to disparage religion, which seems to have held back the development of science in the Muslim world. It is rather to encourage open-mindedness and to promote the relinquishing of defensiveness in religion in which most of the Muslim world appears to indulge freely and without any reserve.

The advent of the holy prophet Muhammad (PBH) was foretold in so many pages of all the previous scriptures. He was finally unveiled by the Almighty God, with a message to all the world (the holy Quran). The holy Quran (as prophesied in the previous scriptures) is the actual word of the Almighty God – Allah. It was revealed for the benefit of all mankind: “Blessed is He who sent down the criterion to His servant, that it may be an admonition to all creatures”. (Q.25:1). It is complete and comprehensive and in conformity with the prophecy in the previous scriptures. The Almighty Allah says: “…Nothing have we omitted from the Book”. (Q.6:38) The message given to the holy prophet Muhammad (PBH) by the Almighty Allah for mankind thus contains a complete code which provides for all areas of life, whether spiritual, intellectual, political, social or economic. It is a code which has no boundaries of time, place or nation. Before Islam, religion was on the authority of its own leaders, and was thus the avowed enemy of reason resulting in making theology to be based on intricate subtleties and credulous admiration of miracles. The holy Quran came and took religion by a new road untrodden by the previous scriptures in fulfillment of Jesus’ prophecy. It spoke to the rational mind and alerted the intelligence. It sets out the order in the Universe, the principles and certitudes within it, and required a lively scrutiny of them that the mind might thus be sure of the validity of its claim and message. Even in relation to the narratives of the past, it proceeded on the conviction that the created order follows invariable laws, as the holy Quran says: “Such was the way of God in days gone by and you will find (that) it does not change (Q.48:23). And again, “God does not change people’s case until they change their own disposition (Q.13:11). Even in matters of morality, the holy Quran relies on evidence: “Requite evil with good and your worst enemy will become your dearest friend (Q.41:34). Thus for the first time in a revealed scripture, reason finds its brotherly place; and toleration made a corner stone of religion as the holy Quran says: “There is no compulsion in religion”.(Q2:256) But warned that tyranny and injustice are the two enemies of social solidarity and inter- social amity.

Most Western non-Muslim women couldn’t envision surrendering their freedom and being forced to comply with Saudi women’s entrapped customs which have existed for the past 1,400 years. Did you know that Saudi Arabia’s religious police, known as the Mutawa, can take any woman to jail for not covering her hair or wearing an abaya? How would you imagine yourself living a life being compelled to abide by the power and values of men: not being able to drive, talk with your driver, shop alone without a male escort, leave the country without a male escort, or be seen alone with a non-related male? INFIDEL BEHIND THE PARADOXICAL VEIL - A Western Woman's Experience in Saudi Arabia is a personal story of startling encounters such as mentioned above while Jeanette English lived in Riyadh, the most restrictive city in Saudi Arabia, where women who by Shariah law and culture are considered to be the weaker sex. Jeanette candidly unmasks a unique experience which exposes the enigmatic issues affecting Saudi women. Their struggle for equality and freedom of choice is a hot topic with an accelerating interest in the subject of male dominance over them, stirring an intrinsic controversy over which many Westerners are confused. This is a timely book offering extraordinary insight into the real Saudi woman before, during and after the author’s year in Riyadh which will turn a few cynical heads toward understanding the issues and challenges in their achieving fair treatment, particularly now in the 21st century. Forced to wear the hijab, Jeanette read the Quran and, in learning about Islam and talking with Saudi women, was able to look behind the veil which many Westerners can only read about. Most authors and journalists who write on this subject have not lived her experience.

The Turning Point- Islam and Jesus’ salvation”, is written in simple English for a reader to understand the complicated issues that compel a Muslim believer to kill himself and hurt others in the name of Allah. In the first part of his book, the author takes the reader into a short journey through the past history of Islam, reviewing its civilization, culture and art. In the second Part, he presents the Islamic Ideology, morals, and life of the Prophet Muhammad. In the third part, the author discusses the Islamic Jihad and the recent radical events. The fourth part brings Islamic and Christian views about Jesus Christ and extends an Invitation to God’s Love and Salvation. The book is described to be light documentary in a story telling theme.

It is very rare to find a book in the academic circles and public libraries that speaks about Muhammad of history. Most of the books today tell you about Muhammad of faith, the founder of Islam. In this book I am presenting Muhammad of history- his life, wars, and teachings. My accounts are based on the “Mothers of the Islamic Books,” the writings of the Egyptian Muslim liberal thinker, Sayyid Mahmoud Al-Qimni, and the views of some modern Muslim and non-Muslim writers. What is written in the "Mothers of the Islamic Books" is called ??????? ??? "Al-Maskoot Anho" which means information that people- Muslims and non-Muslims - are not supposed to hear and know. Very few ''ulama "or Muslim Scholars" of al-Azhar al-Sharif University read these accounts and hardly speak about them even to one another. However, modern Egyptian Muslim writers such as Sayyid Mahmoud al-Qimni, Faraj Foda, and Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd endangered their lives by breaking the seals of these books and revealing to the public information about Muhammad that they have never heard before. For this reason Faraj Foda was shot dead in front of his office in Cairo, Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd fled out of < s t 1 : c o u n t ry-region>Egypt to escape the death penalty, and Sayyid Mahmoud al-Qimni was forced to recant all his writings. Unfortunately before the outside world would get chance to read their works, these writers were silenced through murder, terrorization, and death-threat, and their writings are banned in the Muslim world. Besides that none of their books have been translated into English or any other western languages. In this book I am presenting the reader with the most important contributions of Dr. Sayyid Mahmoud al-Qimni. Accordingly, although many books are written about the life and teachings of the Prophet Muhammad, however, this book is unique because it reveals things you have never heard before and you are not likely to get them in any other biographies of Muhammad. No matter what religious background you come from, this book is going to change your understanding of Islam and give you better insight into our world today. It is a book with no disguises that takes you deep into the life, teachings, and wars of the Prophet Muhammad… The Author: Dr. A. A. Ahmed. October 21, 2005.
