Regardless of age life can often time get very difficult. We find that many people and social activities demand our time, talent and treasure—children, wives, husbands, school, talent and treasure—children, wives, husbands, school, work, friends, relative, extracurricular activities. In the daily grind of living, many forget or ignore, what is most important for our lives. At the end of the day in the silence of our homes during our reflective moments, we are made aware of one simple reality—that no amount of money, achievements, or hedonistic pleasures satisfy the human spirit and soul. We long to know God—even if we say we reject His existence and authority. If you have come to a crossroad in your life and living is meaningless or you are so involved in everyday problems without resolution; if you are throwing your hands up in frustration; if you can’t determine what God wants you to do and want to stop going through life without know what to do, then Crossroads To Life And Living is for you! LIFT UP YOUR EYES is a book of daily devotions written by a Christian pastor who over a lifetime of ministry has come to know the hungers and hurts, the hearts and hopes of humanity. It consists of 374 one-page devotions chosen from over two decades of religious columns written for the Saturday editorial page of the Temple Daily Telegram, by the Rev. Clyde E. Nichols, Minister Emeritus of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Temple Texas where he served as senior minister for 23 years from 1963 to 1986. The book contains 365 devotions, one for every day of the year, plus eight for movable holidays (Martin Luther King Day, Easter, Thanksgiving, etc.). Each of the devotions is matched with a carefully chosen memory verse from the Bible. Using wonderful stories, humor, Scripture and anecdotes, this book speaks to the real life situations we all confront and helps us do a better job of meeting them. Each of the daily devotions is calculated to lift the spirit, focus the mind, and bring a more positive perspective on all we are facing. It is for young and old alike—children, teenagers, adults, senior citizens. Kept on the coffee table or night stand, LIFT UP YOUR EYES can be read daily with one’s devotions or picked up, opened anywhere, and read two or three at a time for comfort, challenge, personal growth, self-development and self-esteem. It is not enough to learn true things about God. It is not even enough to experience the benefits of His attributes. We must not be satisfied until our experience of each attribute has been profound enough to move our soul toward deeper love for God. We must keep learning and experiencing what is so wonderful about each attribute until there is a response in our affections—sparks of actual joy, peace, delight, awe, fear of God, security, satisfaction of soul, comfort, courage, and all the other benefits Scripture promises will come from the nearness of God’s favorable presence. Each one of God’s attributes is a single ray in the spectrum of the brilliant radiance of His glory. That glory is an ocean, and just one drop of that ocean, if you could just see it clearly, would be enough to delight your soul and occupy your faculties of praise for all eternity. This book is a journal of how God has been opening my eyes the past few years to begin to see a glimpse of that drop.
