Marguerite, Bill's wife once told him "Living with you has never been easy but it surely has never been dull", an apt description of the contents of this book. As a Documentary Film Producer his world wide assignments are all fascinating adventures. His most exciting exploits however occurred in the High Arctic where he worked for 14 years enduring "Bug infested summers" and minus 70 degree winters. For Canadians it is an "in depth" look at half of our landmass, the Arctic and the Eskimo's who live there. It is history lesson of the "White Man's exploitation of the areas recourses as well as the inhumane treatment they inflicted on the indigenous population. Seen from the Eskimo point of view it is not a comely picture, forced relocations onto barren beaches, hunger and starvation camps, brainwashing by over zealous Christian clerics, unemployment, the dole, drugs, alcohol, suicide, and their struggles to finally achieve governess over their territory, "Nunavut".

The book might well be a textbook for young people who have aspirations for careers in the Documentary Motion Picture field. Keeping you equipment going is only half of the battle mere survival is the other half. That is what makes this book a fascinating read.

Observing photographs of New York City in shades of gray only – in monochrome – perhaps the first impression to strike the viewer is how little the absence of color diminishes the city as conveyed to us by the sharp-eyed photographer. The gleam, the glitter, the grandeur of the soaring metropolis remain as powerful as ever; we feel only that with the saturated hues of the landscape removed, the lines, the forms and the geometry find greater room to assert themselves, their interplay rising to meet the eye all the more clearly.

With the bridge of entry provided by Ken Pienkos and Staff from the new  Oxford Library, Whisperings Along the Octoraro is a transformational journey of poetry replete with photographs through the rolling hills of Chester County from its early roots, Indian Hannah with its bucolic farms, Frozen in Time teaming with wildlife: Reinventing Wilderness, Wildlife on the Brink of Discovery; its Amish in Tradition; its celebrated artists like Andrew Wyeth "On Meeting Face to Face," and its artisans, "Marquetry" as well as the plight of the homeless man in "Who Will Take You in, Arvin?"  It's a celebration of the enduring values which have been promulgated by the attributes of the thrifty Hausfrau in "Nana's Jewels" and "Kitchen Life" with a penchant for Goethe and Shiller, and the philosophical father in "The Art of Pipe Smoking."  Interspersed within are Love  Knots, Spun Jewels, and Natural Wonders, "The Maternal Spinster:" Is there a way, we can duplicate your fail-safe instincts, delicate sensory hairs, or the silken threads of your woven nursery, maternal spinster with your fine lines of sensibilities? Let Freedom Ring is an affirmation of the spirit of Americans, stirring the fires of a core belief--united we're free, divided we fall--duty-bound for freedom's call, while the "Peace Rose" containing the colors of many roses beckons the young to circumvent old battlelines drawn!  The meaning of life is confronted in When is it Time to Die first with our favorite pets, then the people we love best. Stripped bare, defenses lowered, we can absorb the beauty around like a flower past its bloom all shriveled up except for the essence reflected in the soft forgiving light of the moon.......but even strategy has certain bounds, deciding the perfect time to go, God alone is discriminating saving soul by soul.  The photographs serve to capture the essence of the area with a special ethereal warmth and glow illuminating from the eloquence within.

The music of the orchestra provided a distraction from a segregated army and the Jim Crow laws that Virgin Islanders would not get accustomed to. The orchestra was well received wherever they were stationed, for their unique style of music such as quelbe, Latin music, popular big band music and military marches. Members of the 873rd Port Company contributed greatly to the US. Virgin Islands after military discharge and produced the 2nd and 4th elected governors of the U.S. Virgin Islands, Cyril E. By Brad Fairchild & Larry Corse

“Travel is a State of M i n d, by Brad Fairchild and Larry Corse, is an exuberant, poignant, and often powerful volume of poems and photographs.  Inspired by a month touring in Europe with friends, the poems bring to life moments of 1000 years of history and the ever-ephemeral present.   In small miracles of image, they capture incidents from the lives of the painters—Pieter Breughel, Egon Schiele—as well as glimpses like “your head bobbing on the crowd like Marie Antoinette’s,” or a stained glass portrait of a medieval monarch “barking commands through painted glass lips—wide-eyed and grimy.”  Many of these “portraits” go deftly beneath the surface of the art and monuments the writers visit—Empress Maria-Teresa of Austria suspended live in her coffin, the self-consciousness of a boy being painted nude by Anton Kolig, furtive lovers having coitus on a bicycle on a bridge at night in Amsterdam.   But also, the poems show us the ever-disappearing surface, with its luminous, mundane mystery—a ripped settee cushion at the Hotel Jeanne d’Arc, an old man in Munich dragging a mattress upstairs.

The photos and cover art by Christopher McCarra give an unusually strong enhancement to the poems.  The overall effect of the book is arresting—a surprising and powerfully felt sense of the richness of life, its perpetual mingling of past and present—lovely, baffling, stern and uncompromising.” —Linda Taylor, poet

"Corse and Fairchild have successfully created a lively narrative that is at once colorful, suggestive and incredibly engaging.  They offer us a collection of transient moments in time, masterfully woven together in a charming and remarkably intimate lyrical tapestry.  A truly delightful read that not only captures the allure and romance of the journey, but also offers a brilliant insight into the consciousness of the traveler." — Oliver Self

“Fairchild and Corse send gilded greetings from some of Europe's most dazzling cities.

Their poems are the interiors of picture postcards often mirroring each other.  They take

us beneath the senses to those jeweled chambers where we feel what we see. For anyone who has ever been seduced by Old World charms these poems will carry you back like a beloved souvenir.” — Franklin Abbott, author of Mortal Love: Selected Poems and editor of Boyhood: Growing Up Male.
