On The Wings Of a Dove, is a book of occasional poems that anyone can relate to. I am blessed to be able to write poems that can reach people of all ages, which some of them are written to humor that we all can use a taste of in this life. Then there are a few that can uplift and inspire you on your walk with God. The form of my writings is somewhat different because he makes us different for his will. I hope many can come to realize that God use’s simple things of every day life to better understand the meanings. It really is nothing new for God always did use simple things to bring a message. In I Corinthians 1;27, But God hath chosen the foolish things Of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; if you study your bible you will find he took foolish things to use and he is still using them today. My prayer is that many will be encouraged and enlighten through this gift that God has intrusted me with.

Uncovering the day-to-day routines and activities of a family with seven children should be interesting in any age, but when it covers Depression years to World War II, it’s especially revealing. The narrative throughout is in rhyme, and the author is dealing mostly with first-hand experiences so she brings the common and not-so-common aspects of the Sanders family into bold relief. How to celebrate Christmas when there is virtually no money for gifts; how the father attempts to discourage the chicken-thief; how to keep food on the table when the bread-winner has trouble collecting for the household products he has sold door-to-door; and the isolation experienced when TB forces the mother to live for a year in a sanitarium out of town. The richness of the details in this narrative demonstrates the storehouse of memories possessed by Ms. Barnes as well as the insights gained from being a first-hand protagonist in this family’s struggle. The six children who grew to maturity had many relatives nearby. The closeness of these relatives displays a dimension of community often lacking in our hectic, modern pace. Of special interest is the way this family (and especially the parents) devoted themselves to their church and its outreach. God’s work came first, as much of the father’s activities will demonstrate. Not a steadily unfolding plot, but more like a series of intriguing cameos, this narrative portrays a picture of one family’s involvement in Mid-western culture of the ‘30s and ‘40s. These verses, laced with humor and pathos, show that a home is truly blessed where there is mutual love and a rich spiritual heritage.

What crime does a privileged kid from New Hampshire commit to land himself in a county jail in Alabama in 1965? How does a young man studying to become a priest end up murdered on the steps of a small store? When a peacemaker graduates valedictorian from a prestigious military college what battle is he willing to fight? When Jonathan Daniels committed himself to the Civil Rights movement and joined the effort to register black people to vote in Alabama in 1965, he could not have known the profound results of his actions. Martin Luther King Jr. said Jon’s act was “...one of the most heroic deeds of which I have heard in my entire ministry and career for civil rights.” This ordinary kid from a small New England town became a champion of civil rights and a hero for the ages. His story inspires all who hear it to a life of “decency and nobility.”
