The story revolves around the children of the Deep Wood Camp and their efforts to rescue a feral child locked away at the Millbrook Estate.  The second half of the story sees them on the run and heading for London with the rescued boy.  The story is told by the main character, Danny Willis, and has plenty of twists and turns, from digging up graves to the rescued boy’s ability to control animals. Other members of the Deep Wood Camp include Ant, Finn and Danny’s brother Nick.

Twin sisters, Shayla and Nyomi get an unannounced visit from a tall beautiful stranger bearing gifts. The gifts are presented to them on behalf of the very important village king who lives several days’ walk away. Although surprised and somewhat confused as to why they were chosen to receive the gifts, the girls excitedly accept them. Nyomi and Shayla become even more confused after opening up and discovering what the gifts are. In the end the real truth is revealed and a very valuable lesson is learned, a lesson never to be forgotten.

Bear goes to sleep for the winter when the geese fly south, just as his mother told him. When he wakes up in the spring he is confronted by a factory on his doorstep and is mistaken for a man, “just a silly man who wears a hairy coat and needs a shave.” The man in the yellow hat tells him to get back to work The President takes him to a zoo and to a circus to find out if he is a bear or not, No-one believes him and he is set to work in the factory. When the geese fly south he leaves them all and sleeps for the winter. What a surprise he gets in the spring, nature has taken her revenge and all the factory buildings are broken with plants growing through the windows and the roof One day he sees another bear coming towards him on the other side of the river and he jumps in the water shouting “ I am a bear, I am a bear, I always knew I was a bear.” However the other bear turns out to be his Mum who is very cross with him because he didn't follow her instructions to meet her in the Far Beyond. She forgives him and he gives her a big bear hug. Finally they are seen disappearing over the horizon to find that wonderful place, The Far Beyond, where they .lived happily ever after.

THE ISLE OF PHAR

 

Long ago Sir Percy Phar saved the life of a King.  His reward was a hidden island that took all his courage to find.  Sir Percy brought two treasures to the island: a clump of sacred earth and an ancient marble slab – the Sod and Tablet.  Ever since that far off time the Isle of Phar has prospered, but the Islanders fear discovery.  Whatever they can’t provide for themselves must be smuggled into the Island.

 

Agent Ernest Energy is trying hard to catch the smugglers.  So far the wily gang have kept just one step ahead of him.  A secret passage, a wind-up gramophone and a dog called Doolally all help to lead poor Ernest astray.
