Through centuries of exploitation, racial discrimination, and ridicule, African descendent people has accepted a degraded existence and refused to learn their true identity and to remove this dismal veil they were trained to wear. Instead, they have taken pride in being just Black people as they are mocked and dismissed as mere dim-witted, misfits who the American societies refuse to embrace, respect, or accept as equals. The present status and very existence of the African in America was predicted when the die was cast by this nation's forefathers. The African in America has been separated from his heritage and has lost the desire to control his own destiny. The African descendents of America inability to identify with their true identity has divided the African descendents and left them lost. By keeping the true identity of the African descendent hidden and continually reinforceing the Black label, the African will believe and eventually become Black.  BLACK IS NOT A POSITIVE LABEL.

By Robert M. McAuliffe and Mary Boesen McAuliffe

Why do people get addicted to alcohol, cocaine, methamphetamine, marijuana, prescription medications, and other drugs? The McAuliffes give a simple, yet profound, answer – LOVE. They define chemical dependency as “a committed pathological love relationship of a person to a mood-altering chemical substance, a psychoactive drug, in expectation of a rewarding experience.”

“The McAuliffe’s book reflects the results of lives dedicated to the pursuit of a comprehensive understanding of addiction and recovery of the whole person. The brilliance of The Essentials lies in its ability to incorporate multiple theoretical and technical disciplines while unifying these various perspectives by adding clarity and focus. It is a foundational book for every practitioner and educator in this field."

Scot Adams, Ph.D.

Director of Services, Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services

The Essentials of Chemical Dependency provided the first truly holistic approach to chemical dependency. Whether our clients are chemically dependent, cognitively impaired, or suffer from co-occurring substance abuse and mental health disorders, the McAuliffes' definitions and conceptual framework are understandable, real, and life changing. Their work instills confident hope for recovery.”

Jean Sassatelli, RN, MA

Senior Director for Behavioral Health, Catholic Charities of Omaha

"I am forever grateful for the in-depth, solid treatment I received from Bob and Mary, two of the best pioneers in the CD field. The Essentials has had a profound effect on my life and my professional work."

Patricia Savage, BSN, RN, MA, LCDC

Intake Coordinator, Universal Behavioral Health, Denton, Texas

Dear Friend,

The bloom of youth years are the most critical time for you when many changes, mentally, emotionally and physically come together like that of an emotional thunderstorm and no doubt becomes difficult to digest.

It’s like taking a whole pizza topped with your favorite sausage or pepperoni melted perfectly into that extra cheese and eating it whole rather then, digesting one piece at a time.

To illustrate what would happen to a forthcoming butterfly going through its changing process in its cocoon if the developing process was interrupted? It would struggle to survive and eventually die. The change of the caterpillar to a beautiful butterfly can take several months. The bloom of youth stage can take several years.

I see the “bloom of youth” years as a process similar to the “metamorphosis” of a butterfly. During the caterpillars confinement in its chrysalis all appears quiet on the outside but there are a lot of changes going on inside that we can not see.

Like young teen adults, everything appears to be fine on the outside but there are many changes going on inside during the final stage to becoming an adult that you personally must experience.

I feel the “bloom of youth” years are the most critical and most awesome contribution to the success of becoming a mature and responsible adult.

Sincerely,

Patricia Jane Behling

The book is about an invisible crime that is so widespread – sex trafficking and Internet child pornography that men of eminence are willing to risk it all to go after young children because there is a very slight chance of getting caught.  It bring awareness that there is no age limit, ethnicity, and economic or educational rank of the men who would turn up just to have sex with young girls and boys, as a full female body is not as tempting and attractive to them.  It places ownership on responsible adults, which is for them to be vigilant with their children, not placing Internet in their bedrooms, and to work together to help the younger generation not being caught up in an adult world.

Twisted Mind also gives a new name to pedophiles who adopt children under false pretence.  It is termed global adoption trafficking.  It is certainly a book that brings you up-to-date on what is happening out in cyberspace, and how to protect children.

I think most of us have been bullied at one time in our life or another. I believe there were times we may not have realize we were being bullied! If we were not being hit or yelled at we were not being bullied. Not true! Have you ever had something gnaw away at you in the pit of your stomach and you did not know what it was? I have. Have you ever been left out of a conversation not only when you were young but now as adults? It hurts and is so uncomfortable. Have you ever been laughed at and to you for no reason at all? Have you ever had people just look down at you? Have you ever had people make you feel worthless without having to say anything? Has anyone ever teased you until it hurt? Yes, these are all forms of bullying. Have you ever yelled at your children and I don’t mean just normal mom and dad discipline? Have you said things you should not have and did not realize it was emotional abuse to your children? The things that I have heard parents say are stupid and shut up. That is just a couple things. Think about it and then apologize to your children – no matter how old or young they are! Just love them! If any of the above sounds familiar, you are a bully! That is right! Re-read the bad feelings above and if you have done that to anyone you know, well maybe you need to tell them just how sorry you are! This goes for bosses also! Being a boss does not give you the right to be a bully! If you think you will get a better employee that way you are so wrong!

This is a how-to book. It is written to help you avoid some of the pitfalls of transition for both female and male transfolk. It is composed out of much research and a lot of personal experience. As the title says, this is a “Primer” with many volumes to follow.

Years ago, child abuse was not widely reported or taken very seriously like it is today. Children who were brutally beaten by their parents were not reported to child abuse agencies, people chose to only talk about it among themselves.  I believe they were afraid to report the incidents because of retaliation against them from the abusers.  People chose to keep quiet about what they knew and saw.  People born before the sixties would remark about how they should have had child abuse laws back in their day because their parents would beat them half to death, so to speak.  They would remark “child abuse”their parents would say I will show you child abuse.

By being abused, I felt displaced, not only by mother, but also throughout many relationships.  This displacement caused me to search for love that was lacking in my life. This lead to promiscuous and submissive behavior with men in order to feel loved.  Experiencing these changes made me realize I was stronger than I actually projected.  My will to survive with the help of God, enabled me to overcome the mental and physical abuses without malice in my heart towards anyone.

It is my hope that abusers and those who are abused will seek help to overcome the emotional and mental turmoil within themselves to lash out at others because of their inner conflicts.
