While from this volume the reader will learn about the agricultural, economic, cultural, and political systems in place in Pomerania in the mid 1800’s, its greater appeal today might be for the role Adolph von Thadden played in the church of his day and in the spiritual lives of those around him.

Adolph Ferdinand von Thadden, a Pomeranian country nobleman!  He was this in a literal sense.  Though by birth a Berliner, he was firmly rooted in Pomerania.

The key to understanding the personality of Adolph von Thadden is found elsewhere than in his nobility, his Pomeranianism and Prussianism.  Instead, it is found in his Christian convictions.  His love for Christ became the cantus firmus (main melody) which rang through his whole being and blossomed in his service of state and church, in the family and in his calling.

Whether serious or in jest he seemed to have an apt quotation from the Bible or the classics for most every situation. His most embarrassing experience might have been the burning down of most of Trieglaff with the errant fireworks at daughter Marie’s “fire wedding.”  His most painful year contained the death of a son, daughter, and wife—his handling of these tragedies influenced the conversion of friend Ott von Bismarck to the Christian faith.

Von Thadden’s Free Conferences in Trieglaff were attended by clergy and laity who were interested in or involved in the renewal movement in the church in Pomerania.  Those who were resisting the Prussian Union (called “Old Lutherans”) also found a hearing at the meetings he hosted in Trieglaff.

On reading this book one can become totally impressed with the Christian faith of Adolph von Thadden, and his effective sharing of that faith with his family, his farmworkers and townspeople, fellow estate owners, in Parliament, and in the church in Trieglaff and in Pomerania.  He truly was a “Noble Man Among the Brothers”.

The goal of this Nepali grammar is to provide a reference to the fundamental Nepali parts of speech, its word types, and its rules of word formation from the Nepali perspective. The book begins with a brief description of the Devanagari script and of common pronunciation rules. Then a brief history of the Nepali language is presented. The subsequent chapter on word types and origins is followed by a chapter on the parts of speech. The remainder of the text concerns Nepali word formation and its paradigms. Taken all together, the foundation in Nepali grammar is intended to be useful in conjunction with other learning materials, or literary works, in Nepali itself.

We were a group of thirty-six scheduled to tour < s t 1 : c o u n t r y-region>Poland and < s t 1 : c o u n t ry-region>Italy from September 10 through September 23, 2001. The composition of the group varied from older people and newly retired couples to people in their twenties and thirties. Naturalized Americans and first, second, third generation Americans participated in this trip intended to kindle interest in ancestral homeland. Then the September 11th attacks occurred.

As stranded Americans abroad with little detailed information of the tragedies, we looked at each experience with new vision, with appreciation. We were on a plane between Warsaw and Rome when two planes hit the Twin Towers. We were in St. Peter’s Square as Pope John Paul II addressed the General Audience denouncing the attacks. We were at the Coliseum on Friday, September 14th for the worldwide moment of silence, as tourists from around the globe paused to honor the victims. Throughout < s t 1 : c o u n t ry-region>Italy and < s t 1 : c o u n t r y-region>Poland we viewed seas of flowers and candles, makeshift shrines of peace; we participated in memorial services in town squares. Solidarity carried us from village to town until we could come home. Through these experiences I examine what it means to be American. The book illustrates various reactions to the tragedies and deep changes in some characters.

¿Qué bebitos has destrozado y cuántos muertos has cobrado? Devuelvenos a los hijos de las gentes morenas y la paz volverá a tus valles, cambia tu espesura a cristalinas aguas. Chiqui-qui-a, río bajo la sangre.

Thirteen Miracles and Counting takes you into the life of Elenita Aguilar and her Cuban expatriate family. Join her as she recounts the unexpected everyday miracles that grace her family as they work to integrate their Cuban past with their all-American future.

Thirteen Miracles and Counting is a novel with a rich mixture of characters and cultures and magical realism at its center. As Elenita herself tells us, "We Cubans are a superstitious people. There are always dangers to watch out for. Evil spirits. Voodoo worshipers working their black magic in back rooms during the owl hours of the night. Dry palms ready to burn should it thunder.

It’s hard to tell how these superstitions worked their way into our souls, but they did. Lola, a friend of the family, liked saying that it was the water in Cuba that makes us this way--one dip in the ocean and all the centuries of fear and superstitions just soak into us. My brother Pablito once asked how come it seemed to only affect Cubans even though others bathed in the same waters. She had no answer for him, except that the ocean somehow knew its people. And so with superstitions we grew, my brother and sister and I."

And perhaps it was the power of these superstitions, which made it possible for Elenita to see that miracles do happen. They happen all the time. They really do. Not always the grand ones with saintly apparitions and Vatican approval, and throngs of worshipers making pilgrimages to the holy sight, but small miracles which fill our lives and go easily unnoticed.

The beginning and tone of Gerkin’s Visions remains modeled after the opening pages of Herman Hess’s The Steppenwolf and Thomas Mann’s The Magic Mountain.  If the book seems at first perplexing it is because it portrays and compares a series of visions held extent throughout the work in the hands of the hero, Gerkin, and the narrator, a disciple of Gerkin The Master.  The style is composed of prose poems of varying length and cohesion.  Various moods and rhythms embellish the unfolding of Gerkin’s story.

Much of the material resides outside of time, recognizing time as a variable and not a constant.  Sections such as “Michaels’s Laboratory and the Wind” or “The Imaginative Ones” clearly show the crisscross of science and art.  “The Sitar Player” takes up the characters’ “Journey To The Past,” where as “The Famous Sunday Sermon” Accentuates the changing that the language has under gone in a millennium with its bring a “Found Poem” and its trappings in Old English as well as the impact of the church setting, “Bullfight” implies a cultural break to Latin culture.  The book reverberates between sensible and non-sensical applications of the Hero’s practicalities and theories which may find the audience delighted.

The basic idea for this book came from discussions with fellow doctors and nurses. Many emphatically stated that they would avoid hospitalization at all costs. If it were absolutely necessary, they would use their knowledge of the system to protect their families and themselves. This book will allow you to share the insider’s view of the system as well as prepare you to participate in the hospital experience, develop allies, and win the battle over illness.

The clinical tales of interactions are slices from our professional lives and are important illustrations of the core beliefs of the book, the absolute necessity for patients and families to have meaningful, knowledgeable interactions with those who care for them.

This is our personal view of hospital health care with its strengths and weaknesses.

This is the story of a young girl's experience during WWII in Germany.  It tells about the devotion to Hitler.  It describes the life as a member of the Hitler Youth; what happened when WWII started, with the never-ending bombardments by the US and British bombers and the destruction of her home, school and town.  It tells of the many killings, the horror, fear and despair.  The constant struggle after the war to survive without food, when the French forces occupied the city.

The big disappointment in Hitler who promised a great future for Germany, but took the loyalty of the German people and led them into endless, hopeless wars.  He would not let anyone or anything stop him from invading other countries and killing millions of innocent people.

The story is accompanied with photos of Hitler and photos to show the destruction and death of a city.

It is my understanding that this book is written for all kinds of people.  The main purpose of it, is to show the reader that our lives should be turned to the Almighty God and Jesus Christ in the form of prayers, and it will provide us with an insight of the real importance that prayers have in our daily contact with our Lord.

My intention in writing this book is to inspire young people and adults as well, so they can understand why prayers are significant in our daily endeavors.  This book is aimed also, to teach about prayers, and even though there are many books on the same subject on the market, this is one of vital importance because it tells people how to get an encounter with God and the way or ways He will reveal Himself to them.  It also constitutes a powerful mean for the purpose of evangelizing.

This book shows the reader how paramount our prayers in reaching God’s purposes for the faithful, and how important is our relationship with the Trinity: God Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit.
