By Floyd A Peede Jr.

Floyd Peede spent 30 years as an officer in the United States Air Force retiring in 1972 at the rank of Colonel.  He flew combat as an aircraft commander in three wars.  In World War II he flew 35 missions in a B-17 mostly over Germany.  On his 29th mission his plane caught fire over Berlin and to avoid becoming a POW  he flew eastward.  The fire was extinguished and they let down over Poland breaking out at about 200 ft.  They found a Russian forward base to land in Poland where they spent a little over a week with the Russian pilots.  Over a period of a month they flew back to England to finish their35 missions before the war ended.  In Strategic Air Command he flew B-50s  and B-47s in the cold war and in the Vietnam war he flew A-26s mostly over Laos and on the Ho Chi Minh trail where he killed many trucks.

When the British Government turn down a revolutionary weapons system in favour of the new Euro fighter they don’t realise the wrath their decision will cause. The only radar system capable of detecting the new Thor’s Hammer  is the experimental Spyglass system being transported on a cruise liner commanded by ex-Navy Captain Eric Swanson. Martin Westfarland, designer of Thor’s Hammer, decides to teach the British Government a lesson by sinking the liner and destroying Spyglass before passing Thor’s Hammer onto the Iraqis who plan to use it to deliver a deadly bio-weapon to the west.

Through a series of action-filled events, Swanson and Squadron Leader Gerry Denton are brought together to thwart the terrorist attack, while the SAS are assigned to locate and destroy the chemical lab in the Syrian Desert, which created the virus.  Unfortunately the virus has already been loaded onto Thor’s Hammer. Thus it falls to Denton to fly the Typhoon Euro fighter against the faster and stealthier Thor’s Hammer before it can deliver its deadly payload.

& nbsp;          This a day to day journal about the 5000 mile boat trip known as “The Loop” or “ The Great Circle”. A young man dreamed of doing this trip one day after reading a book about it. After working on the sailboat for five years it was ready to make the trip.

Meeting a couple by accident, they encouraged us to start back with them. It made sense to me to travel with another couple on a boat that had made the trip several time before, so we all started off together.

There are some hair-raising experiences and a lot of fun times spent as we grew closer together as a couple.

Stopping in the different marinas along the intercoastal you find nice people and interesting towns to visit. Dolphins swam along side us many times. And one encounter with a swan in a place called “Glimmer Glass”. You talk about a beautiful sight, there were so many you will have to read to learn about all of them.

The world is as different from the water, as it is from the highway or air. There is so much history and beauty on the water you have to see to appreciate.

We didn’t always see eye to eye but we did have a wonderful time and would encourage everyone to follow their dream whatever it might be.

I hope you enjoy reading this story as much as we did experiencing it. Let me know at joephilbert@aol.com.
