Not Without Protest takes place in the fictional Saint Vincent’s Nursing Home. The nursing home is located in the picturesque town of Rush, New York in the year 2026 A.D. However, this is not your ordinary nursing home. Strange things occur in the mysterious South Wing and when the main character, Anthony Marcella, becomes involved, a sixties-style radical movement ignites as a group of seventy-year-old baby boomers mobilizes to overthrow the administration.

What is happening in the South Wing? Saint Vincent’s wealthy owner, Morgan Douglas along with the evil Dr. Carl Bortz, have masterminded a high-tech scheme, involving mind mapping and stealing using alien technologies. Morgan steals information from the minds of selected patients, digitizes the associated sounds and images, and then stores them on compact discs before giving them to the aliens. The aliens are infiltrating every level of society by bribing greedy humans to carry out their work. They use the information from the CDs to gain special knowledge about influential humans.

The book projects the baby boomer generation into the future when they are in their seventies and living in a nursing home. The author portrays the characters as feisty and brave individuals.

The book Universal Magic, is a twin book. The universal half is named, UPLINE, DOWNLINE, while the magic half is named, MAI ‘JX.

Upline, downline is about parallel universes.

It is a story of a simian race of beings called the Golden, who have a repressive government run by the Church of the Golden Way. The Church has displaced the historical ruling family and forbidden its citizens from learning anything concerning higher technology, while using the knowledge accumulated by the Imperial Family to enslave their own people.

One of these technological marvels is the cross-universe gate. The gates are links to the linear universes that bind the cosmos, with one line of worlds going upline, and another in the direction known as downline.

The last surviving member of the Imperial Family and her two children are rescued by dissident scientists, and along with the genetically similar natives of another world enslaved by the Church, flee downline. It is during the cross-universe escape that they encounter the world of humans on a farm in West Virginia.

In exchange for cross-universe technology, Mike Miller and his family agree to help the golden and their former slaves and now allies the Gorr, defend their new Empire against the revenge of the Church.

The second book, Mai ‘JX, is about energy beings who inhabit the Oort cloud around Earth’s sun.

The Mai ‘JX have an affinity for carbon and can pack the energy of their bodies within the spheres of carbon-60 molecules for greater strength to their energy matrix. They can also tap into the miniscule amounts of energy created by a biologic entity as a sort of food source. This ability and affinity allows them to use what they call ‘mobile carbon’ as a suit of armor.

The Mai ‘JX of the double Centauri stars do not have this source of mobile carbon and have raided the Sol system for hundreds of millions of years for their own mobile carbon specimens. Every time the specimens they obtain through periodic raids begin to wear out, they again raid the sources of mobile carbon on the planets orbiting the home star of the Sol Mai ‘JX, creating mass extinctions on the mobile carbon nurseries of the Sol Mai ‘JX.

When the Sol Mai ‘JX begin to marshal their forces to repel the latest raids from the Centauri Mai ‘JX, they find that one variation of mobile carbon of the third world of their sun has developed a primitive kind of sentience. Before long the Sol Mai ‘JX have entered into an alliance with these solid matter beings to fight their millennia long enemy.

A dead witch haunts A'ly'la’s mind, the ghost of her former forgotten self. They are both assassins, at war over which one of them will live in their body. Passing through Mithris and the Land of Domes on the way back to the ghostly one’s birthplace, they get omens of dangers, including a Talisman of Vengeance, a flaxen girl, a menace of trees, and an Invincible Man. In the Land of Domes, A'ly'la falls in love with its callow, angry King Darr’b. He was put there to rule after being cheated out of the throne of Mithris by his mother and her second husband, Azhn, the sinister Barban King. Azhn is A'ly'la’s father by his adoption of her as soulmate to his daughter.

A'ly'la defeats the ghost inside her, but Darr’b and she are besieged in his castle by rebels. She and Lord Derotql, a holy assassin who protects King Darr’b, fight the rebels. The witch Urtha greets them, men in green accost them, a vindictive Mage haunts them, and the King’s Uncle, Lord Madness, is killed by the Bear God. A'ly'la uses the magic of the ghost inside her to fight the rebel leader, a man armed by the Gods to be Invincible. His holy destiny will destroy her.

Friends and foes abound. To survive, A'ly'la has to solve the mystery of the Invincible Man, and discover how to defeat the undefeatable. To do so, she has to solve the mystery of herself.

Halloween Candy is a Jack O'Lantern of a book. An anthology of horror fact and fiction, newly stuffed after a night of trick-or-treating with film critiques, short stories, haunted house reports, punditry, a screenplay, and an interview with Dark Shadows actor Jonathan Frid. Writings dark and serious and whimsical, and all else that is horror.

Included are new items, and reprints from Wicked Mystic, 100 Wicked Little Witch Stories, Horrors! 365 Scary Stories, Midnight Marquee, Horror, Sci-Fi Universe, and Filmfax. Filmfax trimmed my interview of Jonathan Frid, perhaps assuming few readers were interested in Frid's childhood and early career. I restore that information for those who are.

This horror anthology book also contains my horror anthology screenplay . . . Halloween Candy. A screenplay that was honored with an American Film Institute reading (moderated by Robert Wise--The Haunting), was thrice-optioned, and at one point was set to be directed by Tom Savini. This book contains both the screenplay and a recounting of "the making of Halloween Candy." Or rather, how the film almost got made . . . again and again and again. A behind-the-scenes look into the world of low-budget horror filmmaking.

Harley Hathaway accidentally found a freshwater springs in the sea floor off the coast of Los Angeles and Orange counties when he was just a kid crewing on a sailboat. Years later in college, he makes water his life's work. He works for an ol' desert rat water driller, Jack Silsby, in the desert of California. Jack teaches him all there is to know about drilling for water anywhere. Harley leaves Jack and goes to work for a medium-sized oil and water drilling company, Smith Oil and Water Company. One day while flying to South America for Smith Oil and Water, he remembers that freshwater springs in the sea floor and realizes that bringing that freshwater to a water-hungry land like Southern California is a dream come true, if he can do it. He tries to find the freshwater springs in the sea, but he can't find it; the freshwater is invisible in sea water. He goes to Jack Silsby for help, then he goes and gets his old girlfriend, Alice Brent. The three of them try to find the freshwater in the sea, but they fail. Speeding back to the dock one day after another day of failure, Harley suddenly remembers the Watchers and they go there as quickly as they can. The Watchers agree to help them develop the freshwater springs in the sea floor and the trouble starts–BIG TROUBLE–when every ecologist, environmentalist, EPA bureaucrats, the state of California, the Los Angeles and Orange County bureaucrats, and, it seems, every freak in the entire United States of America are viciously against developing the freshwater springs in the seabed. Harley and his friends can't figure it out why all of them oppose it since they all must drink and use water. Los Angeles City and County spend billions searching for water on land, yet they too are against using freshwater in the seabed, even though oil in the seabed has been used for many, many years. Just think, what if all of the oil under the sea was not even being looked for even though it was gushing up from the seabed???!!! How strange that millions of barrels of oil are pumped out of the seabed, yet not one gallon of freshwater is pumped out of the seabed for a thirsty world! What good is the oil if there's no water to drink???!!!
