By Ellen Williamson
Ellen Williamson weaves an intricate narrative with settings in the north and in the south, characters both black and white, forces of good and evil. A boy from the deep south is burdened with a secret so dark and a tragedy so deep that he is compelled at too young an age to deal with forces beyond his abilities. Then a stranger, a good man with secrets of his own, gives him a strong hand up…and the story is off and running. This is a tale of contrasts, of a coming apart and a coming together, of love and hate, of hardship and healing. & n b s p ; & n b s p ; & n b s p ; & n b s p ; & n b s p ; & n b s p ; & n b s p ; & n b s p ; & n b s p ; & n b s p ; & n b s p ; & n b s p ; & n b s p ; & n b s p ; & n b s p ; & n b s p ; & n b s p ; & n b s p ; & n b s p ; & n b s p ; & n b s p ; & n b s p ; & n b s p ; & n b s p ; & n b s p ; & n b s p ; & n b s p ; & n b s p ; & n b s p ; & n b s p ; & n b s p ; & n b s p ; & n b s p ; & n b s p ; & n b s p ; & n b s p ; & n b s p ; & n b s p ; & n b s p ; & n b s p ; & n b s p ; & n b s p ; & n b s p ; & n b s p ; & n b s p ; & n b s p ; & n b s p ; & n b s p ; & n b s p ; & nbsp; Carolyn Erickson In fear of his life, sixteen-year-old Billy Richards flees from Philadelphia, Mississippi and attempts to hide his identity and guilt in Buffalo New York. Clams in Cups is a unique collection of short stories that inspire hope and delve into the experiences that touch our hearts as we journey through life. Every event in our lives is a cup that holds a different clam; an experience that touches our hearts. Like clams, we create barriers to protect ourselves from sadness, yet these barriers are like brittle shells that often can be easily broken. At times, we are anchored by doubt or circumstance, but we can consciously make choices to move along life’s path. Every direction we take makes us who we are and changes the course of our lives. These stories are legends of the heart borne out of treasured moments in life; some with acceptance of what life sends our way and others with hope for what can happen when we believe without doubt. Review by Writer’s Digest (November 2007) “The general premise of D.C. Legendre’s collection of short stories in the book Clams in Cups is timely, with nostalgia being the overriding theme. With today’s sense of unrest and turmoil throughout the world, this book is a breath of fresh air, bringing hope for the future while reflecting on the past. Legendre quickly immerses the reader in the world created by skilled writing, sophisticated phrases, and reflective scenes.”

The Mirror of Helen Book Three of the Kaphtu Trilogy “The story of Helen of Troy is one of the great classics of all time. In this unusual fantasy novel, Richard Purtill dares to look behind the scenes to depict what it was really like to be involved with that half-goddess whose radiant beauty did indeed launch a thousand ships. Here is Helen as a child, kidnapped and held hostage. Here is Helen as a woman, captive in an alien city, while the civilized world sought for her, fought for her. Told as by one who had seen the events, who knew her, who knew the gods who pulled the world’s strings, this is a novel that brings it all back in the vivid reflections of the mirror of divine judgement.” -Donald A. Wolheim, founder, DAW Books. “With a scholar’s grasp of the period and its mythology, and an unerring eye for character, Richard Purtill brings a gripping reality to the seige of Ilium. As real as today’s news--and vastly more enjoyable.” -F. M. Busby, author of The Demu Trilogy. The Kaphtu Trilogy: The Golden Gryphon Feather The Stolen Goddess The Mirror of Helen

By Juan Trigos
