English teachers seem constantly to be looking for writing texts that have more to offer than the standard writing guides, writing handbooks, style books, readers, grammar texts, etc. that seem to be the only type of material available to help them teach writing—an extremely difficult task. This book, English Teachers Need Better Writing Texts, identifies some of the problems English teachers have in the teaching of writing and explains some new approaches that can be used effectively in the teaching of writing. These new approches are used in a writing text, Writing Insights, also written by Paul Aamot (published by and available from Authorhouse) and this book explains these new approaches with explanations and replications of pages from Writing Insights. So, this is a book about a book. It provides some explanations of the exercises in Writing Insights that enable students to experience the same editing experiences that professional writers encounter every time they write or read and edit what they or some other professional writers have written. Students need assignments that will help them become writer-readers as well as reader-readers, that will "modify their behavior" insofar as writing is concerned, that will give them the same "sentence sense" that professional writers have, that will enable them to, in a sense, "get religion" insofar as writing is concerned. They need to be guided through a writing text like Writing Insights. Simply put, both teachers and students of writing need a book like Writing Insights. This book, English Teachers Need Better Writing Texts, will inform English teachers about these new effective ways to teach writing.

What you are holding in your hands is a tool for better understanding of The Fivefold Ministry. This is a delicate subject which shapes and changes the landscape of the church today. For the last fourteen years, my ministry has taken me to over forty countries. The issue of Fivefold Ministry is on the mind of many pastors and leaders. There is something overpowering about the words apostolic and prophetic that many pastors and leaders cannot apprehend and accept as part of what the Lord is doing in these last days. Fear of new things is always connected with a threat that we may relinquish something we held and protected so dearly. One of the greatest failures of the church is to be satisfied with the status quo, without considering the sovereign move of God’s Holy Spirit and His effort to complete the church for Christ’s coming. Before we accept or reject the ways of the Lord, we once again need to look into the Scriptures to get guidance and direction for our decision. I believe that the sound theology of this book will help those who are looking for real answers without compromising their convictions. This book is no written for casual readers, but for the students of the Word and leaders who desire to serve God without reservations. May the lord be honored by the publication and reading of this book. I pray that many be quickened in their desire to know the Lord and the ministry that he does in the church today. Derek Tan, President of the Theological Center for Asia, < s t 1 : c o u n t r y - r e gion>Singapore: “A very timely needed book in light of the current interest in the five-fold ministry. Dr. Sos has done an excellent task in presenting a clear and precise exegetical and theological understanding on this topic. He does not shun away from some of the controversial issues surrounding this gift, but draws from the Scriptures to provide a sound theological answer. I highly recommend it for pastors and an excellent textbook for bible schools and seminaries. Dr. Geroge I. Feller: “Dr Stefan Sos has prepared a thorough analysis of the five-fold ministry, in a strong biblically based and balanced fashion. It would be an excellent study book for the Bible College Course on Ecclesiology. Also, it is well worth studying in our contemporary charismatic church settings. The book considers the historical, grammatical, theological and critical evaluation of the five-fold ministry. I highly recommend this book. Dr. James F. Alien: “This is a book that would be good for every place of the five fold ministry in the church today. Without a doubt they will face this topic somewhere in their ministry if they have not already. I believe Dr. Sos has given a very practical and balanced to the topic in relation.

The reason why my mother, Virginia, wrote the book the Rules of Spelling is because she wanted people to know how to spell correctly without using computers or spelling gagets. She knew that they could take a computer and spelling gagets away from you, but what you did know in your head they could not take away from you. She meant nobody can take knowledge away from you. She was a caring person who liked to help other people in many ways, and she wanted people to get the education they needed to survive in the world.

The motivation for writing Redesigning Schools for Success came from an observation that we (and others) had made: There are many research-based practices which have been advocated and promoted by educational experts and organizations for years that are not being sustainably implemented in most schools. Exploration of this problem led us to the conclusion that the way most schools are organized and operated inhibits the effective implementation of important practices such as small learning communities, teacher collaboration, personalized educational environment for students, frequently monitoring student achievement, and effective alignment of curriculum, instruction, and assessment. This book presents an option for redesigning the organization of teachers, students, and time that effectively supports these and other best practices. Redesigning schools requires bold leadership. Although leaders may not directly impact student learning, it is clear that what they choose to do as leaders does make a difference. Leaders must set direction, develop people, and redesign the organization for collaboration and a culture of continuous improvement. Leaders must make decisions regarding what they will inquire about, focus on, monitor, and recognize. Redesigning a school requires careful and detailed planning as well as excellent execution of those plans. This book presents a planning process and tool that involves all professional staff (and students, if that is the school’s philosophy) in writing plans that focus on the individual’s role in increasing student achievement. Each plan includes a vision and mission statement, measurable objectives, strategies that align with objectives and that have enough potency to achieve the objectives, and action plans that describe the work that the individual needs to do to effectively implement the strategies. Each plan fits on one page. Through a comprehensive approach to redesigning instruction, curriculum, and assessment, and effective implementation, student achievement will increase.

How to Eliminate Achievement Gap Without Leaving Any Child Behind: A Handbook of Strategies and Best Practices was designed for college and university instructors, teacher education majors, and classroom teachers, especially the first year teachers who will need the ready-to-use strategies to teach the curriculum subjects right from the first day of school and throughout the school year. There are eleven proven, research-based, and practical strategies for teachers to use with their students. There are graphics and charts available in black line masters for teachers and students. The test banks and answer keys are for the teachers or instructors to use to assess student learning. & n b s p ; & nbsp; Today more testing has become the norm rather than the exception in our schools. This book addresses the questions: Why should teachers assess student learning? Do students really learn the specific curricular objectives that teachers are teaching? How do teachers and instructors know whether or not students are really learning and mastering the concepts that they are teaching? It presents the different assessment tools available to teachers and instructors to use in assessing student learning. & n b s p ; & nbsp; Classroom management affects how successful teaching and learning occur within the classroom. The book describes several strategies that teachers can use to maintain discipline and actively engage students in the learning process. It suggests several examples of effective classroom procedures and routines that teachers can use to maintain discipline in order to focus on teaching and learning. With the mandates of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2002, this book also identifies the things that states, local districts, and individual schools are doing to narrow the achievement gaps. Finally, the book summarizes the research findings about what works in teaching and learning.

It has been said that children acquire 50% of what they will learn by the time they enter school. Parents are a child’s first teachers. How well children will do in school depends to a great degree on how well we have prepared our children for future learning, an awesome responsibility. This booklet is not intended to be a cookbook but rather a discussion of those factors that influence school success: Intelligence, Environment, Physical Well Being, Social Maturity, and Psychological factors. It is hoped that both parents and pre-school teachers will find the contents of interest and informative.

This book was prepared over the many years (30 to be exact) of my working in school administration. There are many ways that a teacher can be promoted to the assistant principalship and I hope this book will be helpful to the reader. Often teachers see the assistant principal as a position that gets them out of the classroom and will fatten their wallet at the same time. Both can be true but the roles and responsibilities of the assistant principal may not be for every teacher. Are you sure that there is a significant increase in pay for the time and aggravation that comes with the job? Do you want to work with student discipline and irate parents a large part of your day? Will you enjoy sitting on Friday nights at away football games or listening to a band concert till 9PM? Do you want to use the assistant principalship as a stepping stone to the principalship or are you a career assistant? The book discusses what you should think about before you start pursuing the assistant principalship and what to do if you do decide that this is the job for you. I include resume and interview tips to assist you in that very important part of the hiring process. Tips for the Prospective Assistant Principal was written for the aspiring administrator that wants to make a difference in American schools. I hope you find the information pertinent to you as you pursue your goal.

Is there anything out there that can help us to communicate more effectively with parents? Nothing concerns me more as a school administrator or causes me more angst as the fear of unhappy parents. Very early in my career as an early childhood administrator, I vivdly remember a mommy physically backing me up to the wall with her jabbing words and bullying attitude. It seemed there had to be more going on than her discontent with a teacher who wasn't "loving enough" to her child. My deeper concern was how to prevent a parent from getting this angry in the first place. After finding a startegy to forge positive communciation between parents and teachers, I employed the strategy, in serviced teachers, and replicated the research for two years. Parents who are satisfied with the school's attempt at good communication were also pleased with the way the school was going. There is a strong correlation between parent satisfaction and school communication practices. The book details the "tell the teacher more" strategy, the training of school personnel, the research, and the comments from the teachers themselves how one strategy at the beginning of the school year can have major impact on the positive communication that happens all year long! If you want to make a major impact in the communcation with your school parents, grab the book and read about the "Way to Go!"
